You challenged their old way of thinking, encouraged them to modify their operations and effectively change things for the better.

Debbie Wilson, Director - TO THE TABLE Forums

The question David has spent fifteen years answering

How do organisations achieve excellent results when energy and resources are low?

Every team believes they'd do great work if they just had more - be that more time, more people or, yes, more of that illusive budget. David's experience as a designer, systems thinker and entrepreneur has taught him that' the opposite is true. The best results he's ever seen came from having less. He calls this approach the pursuit of Excellence Under Constraint.

The projects that built David's reputation — a Michelin Green Star restaurant that was featured in Vogue at the same time as being a case study in low waste and low carbon design or embedding sustainability and individuality into the fast paced, uncompromising world of one of GAIL's  — all happened under conditions that should have made excellence impossible. Tight budgets. Tighter timelines. Briefs that asked for more quality with fewer resources.

The pattern was always the same. The constraints weren't the obstacle to be worked around, but were actually the key to achieving outstanding results because they focus and energise everyone involved.

David helps leaders and their teams get better results from shrinking budgets — not by cutting corners, but by using limits the way designers do: as the thing that forces the good idea and holds us to account in its execution.

His keynotes turn that experience into a framework any organisation can use: how to define what excellence actually means before you optimise for it, how to build systems that hold up under pressure, and how to embed this culture into your teams.

Thrive under pressure with less resources

Keynote Overview

Who David speaks to

Leadership teams, executive conferences and organisations navigating growth, resource pressure or change.

The framework is cross-sector because the problem is. Wherever teams are asked to do more with less — shrinking budgets, rising targets, people running on empty — the same questions apply. And the answer is never just "work harder".

His talks sit naturally within leadership development, change programmes and employee engagement. Because doing more with less only works if it doesn't burn out the people doing it.
